In the little park across the street where we sometimes sit and wait for some action to present itself, we were pleasantly surprised when we discovered a new red-belly family actively being fed by both parents through a hole in the side of a tree. They were bringing seeds, bugs, and mango pulp in a constant tag-team manner.
The hole was 10 feet above the ground, and getting too close to get some shots drew the parent’s ire as they shrieked and swooped toward us. We backed away and did the best we could without disturbing them. Keeping our distance brought about challenges to our neophyte photography skills set. Cranking the ISO to 4k just to get descent shutter speeds to compensate for poor light, I figured I could fix in post. I think a little noise and some movement blur adds to the moment we so thoroughly enjoyed watching and shooting.
